Leah Boardman

Leah Boardman is a first year student at the University of Vermont. This semester she has been interning at the Marche dinning hall and would someday like to become a chef. She has lived in Vermont for 18 years and, in the summer, she enjoys going to the beach and hanging out with her family. She is really enjoying her experience with Think College!

The wonderful Lille

I have had a wonderful week at school and lille has me limited to my ben and jerrys trips i am only aloud to go on mondays and fridays. If i breack the rule i cant have any ice cream for a week.

Can’t wait for the weekend

i cant wait for the weekend because i am going to the soccer clinic at St.Micheals college and i am excited to see what i am going to learn from my experience from playing soccer. i have had a good week at school because got to see my friends 

My wonderful lunch with friends

I had lunch with April and Sophia and Cora. I had a good chat with them. April was trying to plan to go to a Katy Perry concert in Hollywood. then Cora and I got some Ben and Jerry’s before I had my meeting with Deb .

Back to Class

I am in a group fitness class and I really like it a lot. Today I had Spinning and Core 60. It was good but challenging at times and I have also done yoga, ride and rip60 and spinning. On wednesdays, I take a class called survey of the fields and I really like that class. I would also like to meet new people. I am having a good semester so far.

 My first week of school

The first week of school is going very good, I like the new mentors that I have had in the past few days. I just got done with my meeting with Deb and Brian V. after I do a post Maddie and I are going to get some Ben and Jerry’s and hang out on the green until it is time for my bus to come and bring me home.

Opening doors conference and August First bakery

The opening doors conference was good and my presentation was to Susan Ryan and Moriah  and a few others. I presented about Think College and mentor support. Everyone was wearing nice clothes and I had a lot of fun. I  have enjoyed my internship and all of the people at August First are very nice. Today, they opened the door because of the nice weather and I also scooped cookies and made bread.

Another fun day at August first bakery

When I was doing my internship at August First bakery I put dough through  the machine that rolled it into logs and then I put sesame seeds on the logs. Then I cut some olives for the olive bread for tomorrow. I didn’t scoop cookies today and I gave my scooping muscles a break from scooping oatmeal raisin cookies on Monday.   Maybe I will scoop cookies on Friday but I am not sure if I will or not I will have to wait to see what they have for me to do on Friday.

My Internship at August First Bakery

I really like my internship at August first bakery in downtown Burlington. I cut olives for the olive bread and I put the logs of dough in the sesame seeds and rolled the logs around. I also put the oatmeal raisin cookies onto the trays. Then I visited with Bryan for a little while, but he left to go to Mann Hall. I also had a cinnamon roll for a little something to eat and it was yummy. My favorite part of my internship is seeing all of the different kinds of bread being made.

Experience at the August First Bakery

I had a fun time at my internship at August First Bakery in downtown Burlington. I can’t wait to go back on Friday. Everyone there is very nice. I am going to hang out with everyone in a few minutes. I got to cut apples for an apple tart that I will be making on Friday. I weighed some almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds. I had a yummy cinnamon roll.

Easter fun!!!!

This weekend, for Easter, I had a 17-pound turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce and carrots. And then, for dessert, we had mud pie. Then, we got dropped off at my mom’ s house. While I was there, we had ham potatoes and carrots and homemade rolls, and we colored Easter eggs. After my feast I was very full. Later that night, my mom took me back to my house.

It April and it is still snowing!!!!!

After the dogs woke me up at 4:45, this morning, I got ready for school. I took the CCTA bus to campus and then I met up with Amanda. Then we walked over to the gym. After the gym I went over to Alice’s to grab a snack because I was hungry. After I was done eating my blueberry bagel, roasted and with butter, Amanda and I walked up to the fireplace lounge so I could work on my journal and my schedule for next week. After I journaled, we are just going to hang out until I meet up with steph. So, we can both walked over to Waterman for class. My semester is going really good because I have learned to take to the CCTA bus all by myself.

My Friday at UVM

Today I had to work in the morning, then when the SSTA came to pick me up to bring me to Waterman for the GMSA meeting. Then I met up with Ashleigh. We both walked over to the Davis Center together so I can journal and post a blog. After I get done journaling we are going to walk around campus. After we walk around campus we are going to meet up with Nicole and Amanda so Nicole and I can catch the CCTA bus home.

After Steph picked me up from the gym, we waited for the bus to take us were we needed to go, which is the Mann hall to go to the CDCI building, on the third floor. We walked over to Waterman Cafe to do some reading for class, then after we finished reading, we walked up to the fourth floor to go to my class.  After class I went back to The Waterman Cafe for some lunch. After we got done with lunch, I did my journaling for the day.  Then we will walk or take the bus over to the Patrick gym to work out and after we get done working out, we will walkover to the Davis center to meet my mom so I can go home.

After we got a bite to eat then we walked over to my next meeting. After my second meeting we went over to the library to write my teacher an email and wait for Sophia to bring me to my class. After my class Sophia and I had lunch together. Then I walked over to the Fleming museum and met up with Andrew. Then I walked over to the Davis Center to do my journaling and after we play pool for a little while then my mom will be picking me up in front of the Davis Center. Leah

Winding down at the Marche

What a lovely day at the Marche. I made chocolate chocolate chip biscotti and almond biscotti and I also frosted cupcakes for an order. I can’t believe that I only have two more days at the Marche. I am going miss the Marche. We went over to the Geology Museum to look around. Then we walked over to catch the bus back to the Davis Center to do my last journal entry and blog for the semester. I am looking forward to starting my new class. I am going to miss having lunch with Taylor and Devon on Tuesdays. (Leah)

 

 

Church street with Cora

After yoga we went over to the Davis Center for lunch, then Cora met up with us then we walked over in the snow to the library to look at the DVD’S. After we did that we walked over to catch the bus to downtown to go to the cupcake shop. The cupcake that I had was good but they needed more of a variety  of the bigger kinds and flavors of cupcakes. Then we walked around church street for a few minutes. Then we walked over the bus stop to catch the bus to campus. (Leah)

I am very happy that I am in the Think College program. I have more confidence in myself. I can’t wait to start my new class next semester. I am very proud of myself because my mom and I have found this special college for special people. I will be sad when I leave the Marche and all of the very nice people behind. (Leah)

Burlington 101

After I got dropped off by the bus, I had some iPad trouble, specifically WIFI problems, but I fixed it. Then I walked over to the gym for yoga. After yoga we waited for Molly to meet us at the gym so we could go over to the Davis Center for lunch. Then after lunch we went over to the bus stop, after the bus came it took us to Church street. While we were downtown we went to Ben&Jerry’s for ice cream, after we were done eating our ice cream we walked around Church street. Then we went back to the bus station to wait for the bus to bring us back to campus. Then we walked over to the fireplace lounge so I could journal and post to this blog so every one can see what I did today. (Leah)

Fun at Yoga

I went to yoga and it was a little bit easier to follow the teacher and it wasn’t super hard. After yoga we went over to the Davis Center for lunch. Then we played foosball and I won. Then I am going to play on my IPad for a while then we are going to go and catch the bus. (Leah)

Fleming museum !!!

After the bus dropped me off late we went straight to the gym to get changed for yoga. After yoga we went over to the Davis Center for lunch. Then I went to the fleming museum to look around and there was very cool stuff inside and then we walked back to The Davis Center to do my journaling.(Leah)

Missing the Marche

After the SSTA dropped me off we walked down to the marche so we could get quick snack before we walked over to the gym for yoga. After yoga I got changed and we waited for Molly to meet us In the lobby of the gym. After we got together with Molly we went to get some lunch at the north side cafe and the food was good. We went to the rock museum to take a look what’s in the museum then we had to wait for the bus to come. Then Molly and I walked over to the Davis Center. I can’t wait for Monday so I can go back to the Marche so I can get back to work.(Leah)

I can’t wait…

I can’t wait to start a new week. I can’t wait to go back to the Marche so I can do some more baking, which I love. I cant wait to go to the Flemming Museum finally, because I tried to go this week but it was closed.

Today at UVM

When I got to UVM this morning, I walked over to the gym to get changed for yoga. After yoga was done I got changed again then I went to the Davis Center to get something for lunch. After we got done eating lunch we went upstairs to do my journaling in one of the many cafes. When I finish putting my journal on the blog we might go downstairs to get some yummy Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for an afternoon treat.

Working at the Marche

I am working at the Marche two days a week and I love working there. All of the people who work there with me are very nice. I help with frosting the cupcakes, putting the cookies on the trays, and putting the cookies into bags so they can be put into the baskets and sold to the students. Sometimes I also get to put the cake batter into the cupcake tins and make the chocolate chips cookies. I love coming to UVM. I have a lot of fun when I am here at school. My mentors and the other people I work with at UVM are all very nice.
