MINOR – Reporting and Documentary Storytelling – APPROVED

Posted: January 8th, 2018 by wfalls

UVM has a rich diversity of courses available across the university that explore Reporting and Documentary Storytelling from a variety of angles, but other than the focused course work offered through Public Communications through Community Development and Applied Economics Department (CDAE), we have little to offer the many students who wish to pursue journalism . Our existing resources lie in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences CDAE, and in the College of Arts and Sciences, which offers courses in media studies and non-fiction writing, including journalistic writing.

We propose to meet student demand by coordinating those varied courses into a cohesive minor that maximize existing resources. The course offerings promise to engage students widely; the required internship will then ask students to apply their course skills in professional practice, building connections which they can carry with them into multiple careers.
