101 Things To Do Before (or After) You Graduate: Bike and Beach Edition

Enthusiastic UVM Foundation employee Derrick Dubois ‘13 joins skeptical UVM Foundation Employee Ryan Chartier ‘10 in pursuit of all 101 activities on the infamous list you may or may not have seen floating around campus the last four (or five) years!

Today’s edition features #7 and #9 — “Take a Ride by the Water” and “Spend a Day at North Beach”. Our last activity left us feeling sluggish. Never fear, exercise is here!

This adventure was Ryan’s idea: “I’ve lived in Burlington without a car for eight years. Although that might seem crazy, I’ve always been able to get to where I need to go and explore cool little sections of the city along the way and it’s kept me close to the heart of downtown. After nearly a decade I’ve decided to upgrade to the limousine of bicycles”.

Ahh , a fine day for a ride….90 degrees

…but like we might hit you…the bike is in control!!

….and narrowly avoiding the toxic blue-green algae bloom!

Brilliant!

Stay tuned all throughout the year for more posts like these. We will attempt to:

  • Make new friends from each campus
  • Hunt for ghosts in the Converse Hall attics
  • Climb Camel’s Hump
  • Spend a day barefoot
  • Learn a foreign language
  • And much more!

What’s the deal with my UVM email?

On Wednesday, you probably received a cryptic email saying “your formal affiliation with UVM” is over…

If you read it, you probably felt a little confused (and maybe a little angry). Yeah, it was a weird email, but here’s the real scoop on your UVM email address.

  • Your formal affiliation with UVM isn’t over. We’ll always love you.

Snape Always

  • If you want to keep your UVM email forever, you can. Next year, you’ll get information about a lifetime alumni email address (just like your lifetime AIM account, right?).

aim.com

  • If you don’t want to keep your email address, just forward it to your Gmail account.

  • Or, if you want to ignore everything above, email us at afterword@uvm.edu, give us the email you actually use, and we’ll update it for you.

How to Request an Official Transcript

Whether you are applying to grad school this fall or just pondering the idea, you’re probably very aware of the rigorous application process. Fortunately, UVM has made requesting an official transcript easy *and free*.

All you have to do is log into your myUVM Portal and click on the registrar tab. On the left, under Academic Records, you’ll see “request your official transcript”.

Once you’re on that page, select the appropriate delivery method.

If you select mail as your delivery method, you’ll get this message. We’ll let you decide if you want to save paper…

Fill out the required fields and you’ll be feeling like a million bucks for completing another step in the grad school application process!

What if I Want to Keep Learning?

There may be some of you out there hungering for more education. As an alum of UVM, you have two great options right here on-campus (and through this new thing called the internet).

Early Internet Pic

  1. Graduate school @ UVM. Tons of interesting programs and options for every career and profession.  And they have a couple of online degrees now.2015-07-15 14_21_27-Graduate College _ University of Vermont

  2. Continuing Education @ UVM. They offer lots of short courses and certificates–in a classroom and online–to get some more skills (without committing to years of grad school).
