Resources

This page will be updated with links to resources on navigating UVM and surviving your college classes. If you have specific requests for information that would be appropriate to share here, please let me know.

Writing Center: To make an appointment, call 656.4075, or go on line to www.uvm.edu/tutor. I HIGHLY recommend you meet with a tutor through the Writing Center for help with your writing process. These trained, supervised, peer tutors can help you:

  • Understand assignments and academic genres , e.g. by looking closely at directions, sample papers.
  • Make choices appropriate for the audience, purpose, and rhetorical context.
  • Experiment with their writing process (because they have an hour to spend, tutors can help students try out different ways of going about writing and editing their work.)
  • Get a fresh perspective on an idea or draft to see how to push their writing further.
  • Interpreting an instructor or peer’s comments and implementing their suggestions.
  • Frame a research question and finding sources.
  • Incorporate and cite sources effectively and appropriately.
  • Approach challenging texts that are central to a piece of writing.
