Sample Resumes

During my time at the Career Center, I had the opportunity to sit in during may of their drop in hours. These hours range anywhere from sample resume and cover letter reviews to finding job and internships. The Career Center provides services to not only current students, but alumni as well. This gave me a more broad perspective because the alumni were coming in to chat more about jobs and the transition. I learned a lot about the preparation to get a job and some useful resources when job hunting. Plus there is a lot more that goes in to new internships/jobs than just finding where you will work.

The biggest part of job prepping I did was create sample resumes for the Career Center website. The resumes are meant to be inclusive and appeal to students with various narratives.

International Resume 1

In this particular resume that student was interested in finding a research assistantship particularly in sociology department.

International Resume 1 – This resume was meant to target international students that may have experience in a different country. Plus, it included some aspects of students that may have studied abroad and how to portray that on their resumes.

New Student Leader

This resume is a new student trying to get an administrative front desk position.

New Student Leader – This resume is targeted to new students that may not have as much information to add to their resume. It is specifically in this format so that the most relevant experience is higher up and can be more noticeable.

Cover Letter Sample

One of my goals during the summer war to develop my written communication skills. Through this project I was not only able to work on how to write a cover letter, but also practice effective verbal communication.

One of the pieces that was the most helpful for this experience was that Amanda Chase broke down what each paragraph should look like. She created a chart that looked something like this:

So then I created my own. In this cover letter, Margarita Clarkson is trying to get a Communications Intern Position at Fuse. She does not have any specific marketing experience, but have some leadership positions that developed skills transferable to the internship.

Cover Letter Sample – Again, when writing this cover letter, I had to keep in mind the various narratives of students. This is not only seen in the experience this student had but with their name as well.
