WebCT Fall Semester Tune-Up

Just in time for the first frost, the Fall semester is upon us. Here are a few pointers to get you up and running with WebCT for the current session, including:

  • Adding students to your course
  • “Flagging” your course via the registrar’s office
  • Directing students to your course

1. Add students to your course – This semester’s code prefix is 200609. That code prefix is made up of the year (2006) and the month semester (09). A typical “registered course” code would look something like
20060991414 = 2005(year) + 09(term) + 5 digit course crn
2. Check to see that your course has been flagged by the registrar. If your course isn’t there, you can request that it be flagged by sending email to registrar@uvm.edu. Once it is flagged, you can find your course on the Latest Enrollment Updates from UVM Banner System list (remember to scroll down to find the correct semester code before looking for your course).
3. Guide your students to log in. Remind students that they login to WebCT from http://www.uvm.edu/webct/ using their NetID – which is the same as they use to login to Webmail, to the wireless network, to library computers, etc. It’s usually an initial and part of their last name. For example, Lois Lane’s NetID would probably be something like llane.
(4) Help!
The best place for getting help with your course is at the CTL Doctor Is In Program, 303 Bailey/Howe, Monday-Friday 10am-3pm via email at ctldoc@uvm.edu, or by phone 656-4460.
