Miami Beach

During spring break, I was visiting Miami Beach. I found that this area is very similar and very different to my usual phenology site for many reasons. This is a place that is used for very recreational reasons, just like the Burlington Waterfront Park. It is a place that continually gets people outdoors and allows them to connect with the natural world. Miami Beach used to be a sandbar and some mangrove trees, and was eventually settled in order to grow tropical foods like coconut. It then slowly started becoming industrialized, and the high rise hotels and buildings that Miami is known for started growing. Some of the only bird activity that I encountered was pigeons on the beach. I think this really describes Miami as a place because it brings together the beach and a large city. There were no woody plants at my temporary site.
