New videos up on Blogging Help @ UVM

After our whirlwind winter workshop series, I hadn’t gotten the chance to point out the new screencast tutorials we put up over on the Bloggin Help @ UVM site. There are two new ones there – one depicting how to set up StyleCatcher, and one showing how to install and use “widgets” on your blog.
While you’re there, check out the static home page tutorial that Hope just posted.

Create and Download WebCT Course Backups

Over on the WebCT Gateway site, there is a new screencast available, on creating and downloading course backups in WebCT CE 4.1. As noted there, this is a visual representation of information that is available in the WebCT help files. For your convenience, the direct link to the .mov file is also available here.

I’ve also taken this opportunity to experiment a bit with google video. The Google Video version is fuzzier and smaller, but you can get a general idea of where things are from watching it.

New screencast series

Over on the Blogging@UVM Help blog, we’re posting a series of screencast tutorials depicting various tasks in Movable Type. They are all creations of Chris Ruscio, a former student employee and TechCAT at the CTL.
You can watch the first one, “Backing up your blog” now, and subscribe or follow the rest of the series to catch more videos.

Deleting students from your WebCT course

Here’s a short clip describing how to remove students from your WebCT course. It shows how to remove student at a time, as well as a number of students at once.
Note that you should probably download a backup copy of the grade book (select download from the leftmost drop-down box) before doing this. Also, after deleting multiple students, you will want to select “show all students” from the drop-down box, so that you can once again see your current class.

Creating a Sub-Blog

Here’s a quick screencast on creating a sub-blog in MovableType. It’s about 12MB, and probably 5-10 minutes long.
The audio is a bit low, but you should be able to get the idea from watching the screen. Have fun!
