Information for New SI Leaders:

Welcome, New SI Leaders!

I am very, very excited to have you join our team for Fall 2011.  To help ease that transition, I have some important information for you all.

#1: Our training will be held this SUNDAY, APRIL 29 from 6:00-8:00 pm in L/L A101.

#2: I have included links to a training outline and a new leader observation record (remember, you will need to observe 2 sessions with current leaders prior to our training on Sunday).

#3: You will need to prepare a 5(ish) minute “mock” lesson or activity to present during training.  More information about this is on the training outline (link above).

#4: You can find this and more information on the tutor blog.  There is even a special page just for you: “For SI Leaders.”

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns before Sunday.  See you all soon!

Best,
Rachel

SI Program Evaluation

If you were an SI Leader (and ONLY if you were an SI Leader) during the 2011-2012 academic year, please click here to complete the program evaluation.  Your feedback helps dictate program organization and training.  THANK YOU!

Get Organized This Study Season

Hi, folks–

You have a ton on your plates right now.  Feel free to use the pdf study organizer we created in the Learning Co-op to organize those ambiguously categorized time you have set aside for “studying” at the end of this semester.  Breaking large tasks down into smaller, more manageable pieces not only helps you better manage your time, but also helps keep you motivated.  Set yourself 30 minute tasks and and reward yourself with a 15 minute break after each hour of uninterrupted study (try to avoid checking your email or Facebook until these study breaks and watch your productivity increase!).

The Final Countdown

Hello, Tutors–

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you that there is only about a week and a half left of classes this semester.  I may have to remind you, however, that the LAST DAY of TUTORING is WEDNESDAY, MAY 2.  No tutoring appointments may be scheduled after May 2.

The final payroll submission deadline for this semester is SUNDAY, APRIL 29.  You will receive your last paycheck on Friday, May 4.  (If you work hours the week of April 30-May 4, your final paycheck will be issued on Friday, May 18.  It can be mailed to you if you will already be gone for the summer, just let us know where it needs to go.)

As a thank-you for all of the amazing work you have done this semester, the Learning Co-op and Academic Support Programs is hosting a student staff-appreciation event just for you on Thursday, May 3 from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Fireplace Lounge in L/L!  Please RSVP online.

SI Leaders and Drop-In tutors interested in holding final exam reviews after May 2, please let me know no later than Wednesday, April 25 what date and time you would like to hold sessions.  Our final exam review session schedule must be completed by May 1.  Thanks!

As one last reminder, if you tutor in the Co-op, please be mindful of where our furniture is located to be accessible to all students who use our space and please do not move chairs between cubicles.

Best,
Rachel

The End is Near

Somehow we find ourselves in the middle of April, with only a week and a half of classes left in the semester.  Whoa.  There’s some stuff we should talk about.

#1: The LAST DAY OF TUTORING is WEDNESDAY, MAY 2.  The same as the last day of classes.  No appointments may be scheduled after this date.  If you wish to hold a group session for an exam review, (SI Leaders, you too) please let me know the preferred day and time no later than Friday, April 20.

#2: I know this is a busy time of year, but if you have signed up for Co-op availabilities you are expected to honor these appointments.  The weeks in preparation for finals are some of our busiest times, and to provide the best service for students we must be able to provide our Co-op hours.  Unless there is an emergency, I will not cancel or remove any availabilities from the Co-op schedule from now until the end of the semester.

#3: If you will be around this summer and are interested in tutoring, please let me know.  While the Co-op is not officially open during the summer months, we will post a list of tutors in the area available for private tutoring on our website.

#4: We have received requests for tutors in the following courses and do not currently have any tutors on our active list able to meet these requests.  If you are able to tutor one of these courses, please let me know ASAP.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!

Best,
Rachel
