Unequal Beginnings: Effects of Socioeconomic Class on Childhood Experiences – Emma A

Introduction

Introduction / Literature Review / Data and Analysis / Conclusion / Sources

For my final project, I decided to research how socioeconomic class impacted aspects of childhood in the early 1900s. I was particularly interested in how household income and housing circumstances affect childhood experiences such as the need to work, spending money, and leisure time. By examining various articles, newspapers, photographs, and statistics, this project dives into how growing up with differing circumstances affects children and their perceptions of childhood. How does household income impact the need for children to sacrifice their education to join the labor force? How does geography influence income? What impact does spending money and leisure time have on the creation of the ‘ideal’ childhood and social perceptions between peers?
