Blogging

こんにちは!

お元気ですか?

1) 日本のりょこうのクラスのしゅくだいです。

ブログをつくってください。

https://www.blogger.com/start

Blog portfolio is a part of our course assignments. Please create your own blog using blogger. It is free.

Here is my blog site where you can find my former students’ blogs. Under Participants on the right column, click on names.

https://ksuzuki.blog.uvm.edu/summer08/

2) Once you create it, please start posting your self-introduction. Don’t give too much information so that you protect yourself (in the same way, I will not post our hotel locations, phone numbers, the dates that we are traveling, etc.)

Sample 1:

はじめまして。私はすずきです。バーモント大学の学生です。今、1ねん生です。マサチューセッツからきました。アニメが大すきです。5がつに日本に行きます。たのしみにしています。どうぞよろしくおねがいします。

Sample 2:

3) Once your self introduction is completed, please send your link to me via e-mail.

4) Now it is time for you to spend some time to do research on where you want to visit or what you want to do in Japan!! Well, we may not go to all the places you want to go, but at least some of them we can try.

Start your research, check online, post some photos of places you want to go or things you want to see on your blog. “Make sure you site your sources.” This is important.

5) Meeting in April. Please send me your available time during the week of April 6th and 13th. We will look at each other’s blog at this meeting and also start planning our Service-Learning project content. I am in the middle of organizing the project with an English class, but at this point, you are most likely to present for 7-10 minutes about American culture, Vermont, UVM, your life in America, etc. in Japanese to the class over dinner. Once this is confirmed, I will let you know the details.

Please feel free to send me questions. I look forward to our next meeting and looking at your blog!

Airline Ticket Reservation

Super discounted airline tickets: Mr. Kurashige from Amnet did a mirachle and requested United directly to reserve tickets for all of us though his company no longer had enough tickets. He even gave us $40 off each person (other companies were willing to give only $10 off).

We will know at around 4:30pm whether or not all students submitted the registration

packet. If everyone did, we will start purchasing tickets. I will send out an e-mail

later today.

Call Amnet: 1-888-833-2678 and purchase your ticket with a credit card by MARCH 6th 4PM. These tickets are being on hold till then. After that, it will not be available and most likely the price will go up.

Notes:

1) Please make sure to match your name on the ticket and passport.

2) Please consider purchasing travel insurance for cancellation of any reason. If UVM

cancel the course due to low enrollment, you won’t get charged for the program fee, but the airfare, you won’t get reimbursed. Unfortunately these types of tickets are usually non-refundable. You will get credits for future flights but $400 handling fee will be charged.

Each insurance is different, and it may not apply to super discounted tickets like ours, HIS travel agent suggested this travel insurance:

http://www.travelex-insurance.com/Enrollments/BrowsePlans.aspx?nc=1

You need to enter your information on the left (resident location, travel dates, age, and cost of trip)

UVM recommends Accent Travel (Contact Angie Atkinson) 802-872-5644. Travel insurance must be purchased within 14 days of the date of the first check you write towards your flight.

2) Consider applying for Mileage plan. United Mileage plan is very good. As of now, it takes about 60000-65000 miles to go to Japan for free in the future. Keep accumulating! Of course, you can use your miles for other cities and other items.

If you already have one, make sure to mention your mileage number at the time of booking or at least by May 7th to Amnet (After that at the airport counter or later you need to deal with it with United representative).

Airline Tickets, Hotels, and Details at the 1st Meeting

Airline tickets

Discounted airline tickets are close to being sold out unusually fast this year.

I have to book with several travel agencies to reserve enough seats for us.

Burlington – Tokyo 5/11-24

$1100 tickets are almost sold out. (since this is a great deal, they will hold tickets

for only 2-3 days) Chicago – Burlington on the way back is almost gone with this price.

$1400 tickets are available

In order to save $300 for each person (this is a lot of money!), I am considering making

the registration packet deadline sooner (this Wednesday). We will discuss this together

at the meeting.

2) Those of you who are not returning to the US on 24th, Please tell me the day at the meeting. I will hold a ticket for you accordingly.

3) Please make sure to match your name on the ticket and passport. I NEED your passport names in order to hold tickets. United airline is usually flexible if you missed your middle names, but it may cause some issues in case of mileage plans, etc.

4) If you are not flying with us (traveling with another airline carrier, or fly from a

different city, etc. please let me know ASAP.) Oliver, you are flying separately, so please

meet us in Tokyo. I made all the hotel reservations so I will let you know where to meet.

Hotels

5/12 and 22, 23 in Tokyo area. If you are not interested in having breakfast (all you can eat), please let me know. I will change your reservation to a package without breakfast.

Miyajima: we need to inform days ahead if you want to have meals at the hotel. It is a small island, so there are not many restaurants…though there are some shops and tiny restaurants (not like Tokyo and other cities where convenient stores supply various items including food).

Many of the places we stay have a public bath!! (shower in your room as well)

Some hotels have laundry facility.

Registration Packet

Ms. Kate August Cascio from the Office of International Education will visit us and explain more about the packet.
