Forest Service Job Opportunities

Want to work with the US Forest Service in New Hampshire this summer/fall? If so, read the info below and contact Nathan Fry (RSENR/UVM alum) ASAP! Nathan’s contact information is at the bottom of this email. -Anna

The positions are on the Saco Ranger District trail crew, located in Conway, NH. The positions will be engaged from 15 May until around 30 September in outside work all summer long building and maintaining trails – no sitting at desks and typing your life away! They will be at the GS-04 level and will receive training/certification in chainsaw, crosscut saw, axe, and wildland firefighting before they begin their duties. Applicants should be capable of (and excited about) walking 10-12 miles daily and carrying loads up to 60 lbs.

Please pass on the following opportunities to your networks:

1) Veterans Recruitment Authority (VRA) hire: up to 3 slots available for a direct hire of eligible veterans through the VRA process. Someone who is a recipient of a campaign badge (Afghanistan, Iraq, etc) or who has separated from active duty in the last three years (even without a campaign badge) can be directly hired by our district. All we need is a phone interview, DD214, and resume.

2) Competitive hire: for non-veterans, the same slots are available through a standard competitive hiring process (i.e. application via USAJobs). We expect the advertisement to be posted by late April and can conduct a by-name request for anyone who expresses interest. Applicants can be students, retirees, or anyone else who wants summer work outside in a National Forest.

Please distribute this within your networks as you see fit. Anyone interested should contact me directly and immediately so that we can get the process started and get them on board before 15 May. Please include my contact info (below) and encourage anyone who is interested to call or email.

Thanks for your help!
