Summer field positions w. The Nature Conservancy – NYC, Philly & Washington DC

 We would like to announce an urban conservation summer field program offered through The Nature Conservancy and Casey Trees, a DC-based urban forestry non-profit organization.

 This Urban Conservation Field Program connects students to both organizations’ urban conservation work in the fields of urban tree health and ecological restoration monitoring. This seven week paid position places undergraduate and graduate students (current or recently graduated) in field-based positions doing on the ground work with federal and municipal agencies, scientific researchers, and conservation partners in one of three sites: New York City, Philadelphia,or Washington D.C. In Washington, DC, Casey Trees, an urban forestry non-profit organization will hire and train crew members in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy.

 Two types  of positions are available in New York City and Philadelphia: Crew Members and Crew Leaders. Crew Member positions only are available in Washington, DC.

 Crew Leaders

Four Crew Leaders will be hired to ensure that field teams complete their assigned work, provide support and guidance in professional development activities, and serve as a liaison between Conservancy staff and local partners. Crew Leaders must be college graduates or current graduate students (preferred).

 Start and end dates for each geography will be staggered. Please consider the duration of each position when applying as candidates must be able to participate for the entirety of the term of employment.

 New York City, NY: June 20th to August 17th

Philadelphia, PA June 27th to August 24th

 Crew Members

Seventeen field crew members will be hired  to work in a crew of either three or four, led by a crew leader, to conduct ecological monitoring of one or more of the following: invasive species restoration, tree health monitoring, and social science research. Students benefit from participating in a paid summer field program with one of the world’s largest conservation organizations – The Nature Conservancy – and a nationwide leader in the field of urban forestry – Casey Trees.

 Start and end dates for each of these positions will be staggered. Please consider the duration of each position when applying as candidates must be able to participate for the entirety of the term of employment.

 Washington, DC: June 14th to August 4th*

New York City, NY: June 21st to August 11th

Philadelphia, PA June 28th to August 18th

*Note: Casey Trees will provide an opportunity to extend this internship through September.
