In celebration of the start of your senior year at UVM and how far you’ve come since you began school long ago, let’s play “Which One Doesn’t Belong?”
Orange | Orange | Orange | Apple |
Square | Circle | Triangle | Fish |
Book | Hat | Gloves | Scarf |
You remember this game! We all learned to distinguish various groupings and identify similarities and differences pretty early on in our academic careers. Now that you’re warmed up, here’s one that may be a little tougher:
UVM Student | UVM Student | UVM Student | UVM Senior |
Just as apples and oranges are both fruit, you are still a UVM Student – but as a Senior – you are distinguishably different. This year is different for you. It may feel comfortably familiar. You have good friends, you know your way around campus, and you are hopefully involved in classes or activities that you’ve chosen because you enjoy them.
And yet, this year is different because in less than 9 months you will leave and close this chapter of your life. The steps you take each week, and the way you spend your time this year can have an impact on your life for years to come. What can you do to make the most of this final year?
- Own it. You are a senior at UVM. This is real. Ignoring it won’t make it go away.
- Make a plan. Goal. Dream. Have a solid sense of what you would like to do after graduation. Not sure? All the more reason to dive into #3, as each step you take will give you more ideas and insight.
- Take a step every week. Small steps add up. Fill out your 4 Year Plan for Career Success. Go to a career related event or workshop – including Senior Workshops! Connect with an alum. Polish your LinkedIn profile. Consider each step as a deposit in your Post-Grad Success Piggy Bank.
Finally, know you are not alone! You have friends who are also trying to figure it out. You have professors, advisors, friends and family, and career counselors who would be happy to help you on your path.
And don’t miss Careers + Coffee, Wed. Sep. 16, 3-5pm – Your Senior Kick-Off Event!
Good luck and have a great year!
