Fall 2009 Fulbright Competition

This year’s Fulbright competition opened May 1. There is a lot of information about the Fulbright grants (Full Grants and English Teaching Assistantships) online on the Fulbright website. As well, we have detailed Fulbright brochures (actually, they’re books) available for all applicants in the Honors College offices in University Heights North. Although the UVM Fulbright competition is administered by the Honors College, it is open to ALL graduating seniors and alumni who qualify for the competition. Please contact Associate Dean Lisa Schnell for a Fulbright brochure if you’re thinking of applying (Lisa.Schnell@uvm.edu)

Applications will be due to our office in the Honors College on September 18, 2009, and though that might still seem like a long way off, it is not. The Fulbright application is a very involved one and requires a lot of self-reflection and planning, and quite a lot of consulting with the fellowships staff in the Honors College. It is a good idea, then, to register right away with the Fulbright’s online application system, Embark, and get acquainted with the application. Once you register, you will have as much time as you need (to September 18) to complete the application. You will also be able to revise it as many times as necessary (including revising your choice of a country or program). You can even choose not to submit the application on September 18 if you change your mind about applying. In other words, there are no strings attached to starting an application now. So please do register immediately if you are interested.

Here is the address for the Fulbright website. Click on “Apply Now” to find information on the application process and the link to the online application registration:

Please fill out the application at least through Questions 6 and 6a when you first register. And it is particularly important that you fill out 6 and 6a correctly by clicking first on “INSTITUTION” (for Question 6) and typing in Univ. of Vermont, then selecting it when it pops up. It is also important that, for 6a, you click on “ADVISOR” and select my name, Lisa Schnell (which should pop up automatically).
