First update of the year!

Tutors,

Hello again! This is the first of my regular Friday emails this semester. We’ll be having our start of the semester meetings next week. I will offer two, but you only need to attend one.

  • Tuesday, August 26th, in L/L A161 at 5:30
  • Wednesday, August 27th, in Lafayette 111 at 7:30

We’ll be reviewing all the basic policies around tutoring, as well as completing the paperwork. I will collect availability from those of you who would like to have Co-op appointments. If you are unable to attend either meeting, please let me know. We will have to find another time to meet.

In the mean time, you should consider adding new courses for which you might be eligible to tutor. You can do that by having your instructor complete the form following this link:

https://www.uvm.edu/learnco/?Page=fac/recommend.html&SM=fac/facSubmenu.html

Let me know if there are any issues, or if you have any questions. I’ll see you all next week. Mark your calendars: tutoring begins Monday, September 8th.

Thanks,
Keith

November 15

Tutors,

Many of you have already let me know about your spring plans. I just want to say one more time that it would be incredibly useful for us in the Co-op if you could let me know if you will be either abroad in the spring, graduating in December, or planning to no longer be a tutor. If we have already talked about this, thank you.

Also, if you have Co-op hours and you plan on leaving early or returning late from Thanksgiving Break, let me know so we can make any necessary changes to the schedule.

Remember, tutoring ends on the same day that classes end: Wednesday, December 4th. The Learning Co-op will NOT pay you for any hours you spend tutoring during the exam period, so please plan accordingly with your students.

I have finally received information about future sexual harassment trainings. If you have not already attended, you should plan on going to one of the times listed below. Please, email me when you have attended the training, so we can record that as part of your file here in the Learning Co-op. This is paid time, so submit one hour into PeopleSoft on the date which you attended.

SI Leaders: Fall Training Meeting

SI LEADERS:

Thank you for completing the availability survey to help me schedule the Fall training meeting.  The only day you all were free to meet was Sunday, August 26.  I have booked L/L CM 216 from 5:00-7:00 on that date for the training meeting.  The meeting agenda is set and it should be awesome.

Remember, you will also attend the All-Tutor meeting from 7:00-8:00 pm in L/L CM 315 on Monday, September 3.  Both meetings are paid training, so be sure to enter this time in PeopleSoft.

Enjoy the rest of your summers and be sure to stay in touch!

Resume Building Workshop

Let’s be honest for a quick moment. Does your tutoring experience look a little something like this on your resume:

“Helped students with Math and Physics.” ?

Many of you will soon be applying for summer jobs or internships, or graduating and taking the plunge into the “grown-up” job market. Whether you are a first yer student or senior, it’s really never too soon to begin crafting a professional resume.Whatever your situation, you all work too hard to not have your experience as a peer tutor in the Learning Co-op bolster your resume. If you think yours could use a little work to better your reflect your time as a tutor–or whatever else– bring your resume to a workshop we’ve designed with Career Services specifically for student staff members in the Learning Co-op on Tuesday, March 20 from 5:30-7:00. The workshop will be in L/L CM 315.

Space is limited, so please sign up or decline attendance by following this link. We look forward to seeing you there!
