The Third Bank of the River is Premiering in Barcelona, Spain

Casa America Catalonia  – Barcelona, Spain
The Third Bank of the River, premiere
03/06/2026 – 7 pm

In the dance work, The Third Bank of the River, the dramaturgy draws inspiration from Brazilian author Guimarães Rosa’s short story “The Third Bank of the River.” This article examines PH Dance’s research process in creating a performance titled after the story. Premiering in March 2026 at Casa Amèrica Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, the work blends choreography and improvisation to offer a deep reflection on the complexities of human existence influenced by the metaphysician’s writing. Embedded in a social context governed by norms that often restrict the exercise of free will, the body is seen as a space of interrogation and transition, oscillating between symbolic margins that evoke ontological and existential questions.
