Vegetation

There is a wide variety of plant species in and around Salmon hole, which is part of why I chose this location. Some of the tree species I observed were Paper Birch, Norway Maple, and Red Oak. There was also lots of ferns and mosses on the forest floor. Closer to the rocky bank of the river, there are mostly smaller plants such as Common Buckthorn.

Phenology Spot location

I chose an area of Salmon Hole as my phenology spot. I first visiting Salmon hole while I was on a run, and loved the area. I chose this location because it has a variety of terrain with the forest on the rocky bank of the Winooski River. Salmon hole is about 3 miles from redstone campus. To get there I went through central campus, past Trinity, and it’s off to the left right before the bridge into Winooski. I went down the trail to a more secluded area with lots of trees overlooking the river.
