How can erosion affect water quality?

Erosion has an impact on water quality.  The water turbidity increases because of sediment deposition in lakes and rivers, creating a challenge for sunlight to penetrate the water. Sediment is carried in erosion, and sediment is high in nutrients, such as, phosphorous and nitrogen. Since its hard for sunlight to penetrate the water plants and aquatic life struggle because they don’t get the sunlight they need. This helps increase the population of algae. Some areas have a larger area of algae; these areas are called algae blooms. It is more likely for aquatic life, and plants, to die in spots with exesive algae.
