The Lakes and Ponds Program of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation seeks energetic and outgoing individuals to join our aquatic invasive species management team for the upcoming field season. The primary responsibility of the incumbents will be to oversee and implement AIS spread prevention efforts in their respective region. This includes traveling to regional waterbodies with trailered watercraft decontamination equipment and performing watercraft inspections and decontaminations, as well as educating the public on the threats posed by invasive species. It is expected that the incumbent will become an expert in watercraft decontamination, and will support other regional watercraft inspection and decontamination efforts. Additionally, incumbents will be expected to engage the public in multiple ways to provide AIS education, which may include outreach at local events or schools. Incumbents will perform other duties as needed by the AIS program that may include invasive plant and animal monitoring and management, data entry, basic data analysis, equipment maintenance, and maintenance of signs and other informational materials in their region. Because these positions will focus on outreach at public access areas that are typically busiest on weekends, it is expected that the incumbent will work many weekends.
