Our programs welcome students of all majors to combine classroom learning on shore in Woods Hole with a transformative hands-on experience at sea.

EcoQuest New Zealand – Wed., 1/25, 4:30pm Aiken 202 (lab classroom on second floor of Aiken)
· Thinking of participating in an applied field studies program abroad? Please consider joining Dr. Kimberly Babbitt, UNH-EcoQuest Academic Program Coordinator, and EcoQuest alumni and staff for an informational session on Wednesday, January 25, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, Aiken Room 202.

In partnership with the UNH Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, the EcoQuest Education Foundation offers an intensive program of applied field studies in ecology, resource management, and environmental policy. Students engage in a hands-on, multidisciplinary, research-oriented program while contributing to New Zealand’s restoration ecology and sustainable resource management initiatives. EcoQuest has long-term commitments to ecological monitoring of endemic species and ecosystems, as well as projects and initiatives that advance sustainable management of natural resources and habitats.

Upon arrival at the EcoQuest seaside field center, students become active participants in a vibrant, sustainable learning community. The field-oriented delivery happens in a variety of terrestrial and marine ecosystems to allow students to develop an understanding of the many issues facing New Zealand today. Participants will travel to New Zealand’s most majestic environments, which range from sub-tropical forests, to estuaries, to the sub-Antarctic mountains of the Southern Alps. Our collaborators include local iwi (tribes), government departments, non-government organizations, local authorities and community groups alike. Semester participants will have the opportunity to carry out team-oriented, directed-research projects while working closely with a faculty mentor and in association with New Zealand research partners and local communities.

Participants may choose from a 4-course, 15-week fall or spring term for 16 credits or a 2-course, 5-week summer session for 8 credits. Team members from colleges and universities across the country have joined EcoQuest in New Zealand for an unforgettable journey through multidisciplinary, experiential learning “from the mountains to the sea.”
We hope you will join us to find out more about this life-changing experience. As this is the dinner hour, pizza, will be available for all participants. For more information on our program, please visit our website at www.ecoquest.unh.edu or contact Donna Dowal, UNH-EcoQuest Director of Admissions at ecoquest@unh.edu.
