Four days in the mountains, four days on the river: from the top of Vermont to the shores of the lake. A naturalist adventure like no other.

This trip is based on the epic adventures of the great naturalists, taking inspiration from John Muir’s hikes along the craggy peaks of the Eastern Sierras and Mark Twain’s famous trips on the Mississippi River. We’ll devote equal time to natural history, primitive skills, and the pure enjoyment of being out in the wilds of Vermont. Our trip will take us to Mt Mansfield, the highest peak in Vermont, and then over 4000 scenic feet in elevation down to Lake Champlain, the lowest place in Vermont. Our days will be spent hiking, paddling, and learning primitive skills (like fire-by-friction), and natural history to develop a deeper understanding of the landscape of Vermont.

BEYOND UVM: Program: Eco Practicum deadline April 1st, Catskills

Just one year ago, we were collecting applications for the pilot year of Eco Practicum. Now, as we reach out to students once again, I am amazed at how far we have come in such a short time. What began as a small supplemental environmental education program has turned into one of the region’s most exciting summer opportunities for college students and recent graduates. Eco Practicum is funded by some universities, accredited by others, and has helped activate a new generation of environmental leaders by connecting them with the leaders of today.
Please help us spread the word and share this with students & faculty.
Eco Practicum is a summer program for college students & recent graduates. Part think-tank, part action-workshop, participants live on an environmental education facility in the heart of the Catskills and get the opportunity to farm, learn from peers, and meet with the foremost experts in the field.
