UVM offers numerous fellowship and research opportunities to undergraduate students. There are also credit-based opportunities directly though ALE. If you are interested in pursuing these opportunities and are seeking a faculty mentor, feel free to contact me to discuss your goals. I currently do not have funds for graduate assistantships. However, I am a member of the Graduate Faculty and am more than happy to serve on committees. I also offer workstudy positions.
Quantify Pest-Fighting Pollinators!
Seeking a self-motivated individual to assist with a research project that examines the beneficial insect community associated with various types of floral habitat plants.
Learn How to Collect Ticks!
Seeking a motivated student to survey for ticks at the UVM HREC during the fall semester as part of an ongoing surveillance effort.
Create Biopesticides Using Entomopathogenic (Insect-Killing) Fungi!
Several exciting opportunities to isolate entomopathogenic fungi or test commercial products against key agricultural pests (thrips, aphids, whiteflies, etc.) and ticks!!
Important Details:
These positions are either located in Jeffords Hall or a short distance off-campus at the Bioresearch Complex, 661 Spear Street (just past the UVM Farm). It is within walking distance, but a bike or vehicle is helpful to get here. Blocks of time (4-6 hours) are required at least 1x/week between the hours of 8am-5pm, M-F to align with the operating hours of the lab. These opportunities are open to all students across the University, but emphasizes topics aligned with CALS programs. Enrollment is by instructor permission. Prior to applying, please review UVM Academic Internship polices. Applicants should plan on spending 45 hours of effort per each credit hour per UVM guidelines. These positions are for credit only and and are unpaid. I also usually offer one paid workstudy postion per year.
