As many of you may have already heard, UVM is updating the main website this summer. The new main website will be using a new content management system called Drupal. Eventually, all UVM sites using the UVM Web Publishing System (aka MagicScript) will also migrate into Drupal — more details on that will start emerging in the coming months.
In the meantime, all these publishing system sites will be receiving a small update in the form of a new streamlined banner. We think that you will like the “new and improved” banner as we’ve tried to address some of the concerns people have mentioned in the current design. This is what the new UVM main banner looks like on its own:
Viewing your site with the new banner
We’d like to give you an opportunity to see how that will look on your site when we make the main website change at the beginning of July. We have developed an area where you can preview your site that’s currently in the UVM Publishing System with this banner. You will only see the new banner atop your site; nothing else has changed. To do so, visit http://www.uvm.edu/webguide/preview/
Here you will be prompted to “View new UVM banner.” Once you click on the link, you’ll be able to alter the url/address bar in your browser window to direct yourself to your own unit’s website (http://www.uvm.edu/your_site). The tool will time out in 10 minutes.
We are continuing our support for modern browsers and, if you are using the responsive template, mobile devices. We have noticed that you may encounter some problems with the search functionality if you have attached a copy of jQuery to your site. (Note, the publishing system already includes jQuery so you should not need to add it again to your site or to individual pages.) Please report other functionality issues to us at email@example.com. Thanks for working with us on this and future transitions and we hope that you all find this “update” a good step forward for your sites.
