This bud is what I have identified as a red maple bud, on a tree right outside of University Heights North
It is possible and likely that my identification was faulty for a few key reasons
- The buds on the winter twig identification sheet are quite early in development, while the buds I observed were quite late in bud development
- The trees in the UHN courtyard are likely ornamental trees that aren’t on the identification sheet
- Since the buds that I observed were hard to compared to the twigs on the sheet, I based my identification on the red coloring of the twigs, and the general shape of the buds as opposed to a more solid identification approach
