Since 2009, the fund has made 71 awards totaling over $36,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vermont&#8217;s working landscape depends on women farmers<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/vfwf\/files\/2020\/10\/photo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly 70% percent of Vermont&#8217;s farms have at least one woman operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women are the primary producer on a third of Vermont farms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women typically operate smaller farms and earn less than men.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">VFWF provides help at critical times in farm business development<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"120\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/vfwf\/files\/2020\/10\/JulieWolcott-small.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>VFWF stipends and scholarships provide funds that would otherwise be unavailable through other loan and grant programs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Awards pay for consulting fees, tuition and registration fees, and associated childcare, replacement labor and travel costs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Women farmers encounter a number challenges <\/h6>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"120\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/vfwf\/files\/2020\/10\/photo2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>They often have different learning needs when it comes to production, marketing and finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Farmers use their awards to help research and develop new products; conduct feasibility studies; and learn new marketing, business management and value-added production skills.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What farmers say:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Thank you so much for helping me get to this class.
