{"id":31,"date":"2020-10-12T13:54:16","date_gmt":"2020-10-12T17:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/vfwf\/?page_id=31"},"modified":"2026-09-02T15:12:39","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T19:12:39","slug":"about-the-vfwf-scholarship-initiative","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/vfwf\/about-the-vfwf-scholarship-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"About the VFWF Scholarship Initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can VFWF scholarships cover?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scholarships can be used to defray registration fees and in some cases associated travel costs for educational conferences, courses and classes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The key to a successful proposal will be explaining how the education relates to improvements you are considering on your farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who can apply?&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VFWF targets its scholarship awards to women who own, operate and\/or work on Vermont farms, and who earn a majority of their income from farm-related activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much can I request?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VFWF will contribute up to 75 percent of class\/course\/conference registration fees. In certain cases, travel costs, such as lodging and airfare, may also be covered. Except in cases of extreme financial hardship, the maximum scholarship amount will be $250.&nbsp;<br \/><br \/><em>VFWF reserves the right, at its discretion, to award less than the full amount an applicant requests or no amount.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How will awards be decided?&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In selecting scholarship recipients, we are seeking individuals who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have specific plans to use the skills, information and knowledge they gain at the conference to implement successful farming practices on their own farm in the next 6-12 months,&nbsp;<strong><em>and\/or<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;who intend to share what they learned with other farmers in the 6-12 months;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agree to submit a written report about the education they received within six weeks of the event, and to respond to follow-up surveys from the VFWF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Award decisions will also consider the applicant\u2019s financial situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Should I apply?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be eligible for funding, applications must be submitted to the Vermont Farm Women&#8217;s Fund least 10 days before the event that you want to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When will I find out if my application was approved?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VFWF reviews and awards scholarship requests on a first-come, first-served basis as funds are available. Applicants are notified within 10 days of receipt of the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I reapply if I am unsuccessful?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your proposal is not selected, you can resubmit it for a future round of funding. Rather than simply resubmit the original proposal however you might consider ways to revise and strengthen your proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I reapply if I receive an award?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you receive an award from the VFWF you will need to wait 2 years before applying again.
