12/5/20 Final Post

This is the final post about for the Phenology Blog. Over the course of the assignment I learned about the history Redstone Quarry, that it was used as a quarry from the early 1800’s was then bought by the University of Vermont in 1958 and the stone was used to construct buildings on Redstone campus, with the University later converting the quarry into a natural area. I learned about the phenological changes by witnessing them, I witnessed how the animals I could see in the area changed, with many birds like birds of prey and Canadian geese migrating to warmer areas for the winter, and could watch as squirrels and chipmunks rushed to gather enough food to store enough energy and fat to make it through the Vermont winter. I could also see the vegetation change with many of the deciduous hardwood trees shedding their leaves in the fall. I also noticed how the climate changed, with everything getting wetter and rainier while the seasons brought cooler temperatures especially during October. I have no new photos of Redstone Quarry since I moved back home for thanksgiving unfortunately so I cant see how the area has progressed further as winter draws even nearer.
