For the city nature challenge, I didn’t really have a lot of time to explore due to many final projects being due soon making my workload a lot more then normal. I was able to go to centennial woods for a little bit but mainly focused on noticing things on campus throughout the challenge.
I didn’t really get to record most of the observations, since they were quick ones I made walking around campus getting to somewhere I needed to go so I didn’t have time to take photos to put them on inaturalist. When I was around centennial woods I also didn’t make any confirmed observations, I found some mushrooms but couldn’t identify them and same with some of the species in the understory. I also found a beaver pond but it was not during the time where beavers are active since their nocturnal.
From what I saw in other cities, I found it very cool just how much nature can be hiding in and outside of cities all over the world, you just either need to know where to look or get lucky enough to stumble upon it. I enjoyed seeing photos of species id never see in the wild, nevertheless in a city and I liked how it showed how full the planet really is even with animal populations declining, which gives me more of a desire to conserve them so future generations can enjoy them.
