The UVM Taekwondo Club is a student-run martial arts club dedicated to providing free Taekwondo classes to the UVM community. We are a fully accredited Taekwondo school in the WT style with a staff of professional assistant instructors and multiple Master instructors. Students of all skill levels from beginner to advanced are welcome to attend to learn Taekwondo, build self-defense skills, or just get fit!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In addition to providing classes, the Taekwondo Club also participates in the Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference, competing in tournaments (and hosting one of our own). For more information about the ECTC, visit their site here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you need to have experience in martial arts?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

No experience is necessary! We welcome all students of all abilities and skill levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What should I wear to my first practice?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Wear comfortable athletic clothing that you can move freely in, such as a T-shirt and athletic shorts or sweatpants. Please avoid clothing such as tank tops or short shorts, and stick to attire that is appropriate for the martial arts environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do belt tests work?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We hold belt promotion tests once each semester. For testing, you need to demonstrate the forms (poomsae), terminology, and techniques appropriate for your current rank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belt testing is not guaranteed. Our instructors also consider factors such as your attendance at practices, overall improvement, effort, and attitude when deciding whether a student is ready for promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much does it cost to join?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Joining the club is completely free. There are no dues or fees for our practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’d like to compete with us, we also cover registration fees, transportation, and lodging for club members attending tournaments.

The only expenses members are typically responsible for are personal equipment, such as sparring gear and a dobok (uniform), which is required for tournaments. We organize a team gear order each semester to help members get everything they need. If you don’t have your own sparring gear yet, don’t worry! We also have sparring gear available for members to borrow for practice and competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
