Here&#8217;s a generic MS Word document to get you started."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your first manuscript will be be very hard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first manuscript you&#8217;ll ever write is probably best described as a &#8216;slog&#8217;. It&#8217;ll take 2-3 times longer than you expect. This&#8217;ll be from a few different reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unfamiliarity with typical structure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lack of a structured approach to writing a first draft<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing the analysis too late in the drafting of the manuscript (i.e., not as a first step in drafting)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deciding the tables and figures to include too late in the manuscript (i.e.,  after completing the analysis)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not knowing how to use MS Word&#8217;s advanced features that can help optimize drafting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here&#8217;s a resource that can help<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I developed this <strong><em>generic research manuscript <\/em><\/strong>over several years of slogging through first drafts of epidemiology manuscripts.
