Week Five Already!

Greetings, Tutors–

It was so great to see all of your lovely faces in one room, all together!  I wish we could do it every week… Thanks for being patient with me, even though the powerpoint was finicky (or I was incapable of working it).  Either way, just a few things to send along to you all this week in addition to my weekly plea for tutors.

1. The deadline for submitting hours for the next pay period is THIS SUNDAY by midnight.  Please enter all of your hours into PeopleSoft, if you are able, and remain patient with HR as they continue to plow through their mound of paperwork.  If you don’t yet have access to PeopleSoft, remember to be keeping track of your hours so you can enter them as soon as you have access.

2. A few of you inquired as to the status of evaluations this semester.  It is something we are still working on updating and incorporating into the TutorTrac system, so I’ll keep you posted.  Students checking out of appointments at the kiosks in the Learning Co-Op are immediately prompted to fill out an evaluation, but the system for campus-wide sessions is still under construction.

3.  The Co-op schedule is very close to full, but we still have availability scattered throughout the week and no one on Monday nights from 7-9.  Stop by my office if you’d like to fill one these spots.  Also, to help keep things straight, I’ve posted schedules in each of the Co-op spaces.  Since the Co-op is busier these days, be sure to double check all your appointments on TutorTrac, and check that the student you’re meeting is the student with which you are scheduled.

4.  Finally, I’ll leave you with a litany of tutoring requests.  As always, if you see a course you’ve taken in the past and would like to try your hand at tutoring for it, request a faculty recommendation from your professor by sending them the following link  http://www.uvm.edu/~learnco/sat/facrec/ and send me a quick email.  Thanks!

All-Tutor Meeting Sunday Night; DON’T FORGET!

Greetings, tutors–

My biggest and best news for you, of course, is the final reminder that our ALL-TUTOR MEETING IS THIS SUNDAY, 9/26, AT 7PM IN L/L CM315!!!  We will be reviewing general procedures as well as how to operate both TutorTrac and PeopleSoft.  Bring your questions regarding any aspect of the tutoring program that has proved troublesome for you, and I’ll do my best to clear everything up.  I will need you to fill out important beginning-of-the-year paperwork, so bring a pen.  If you’d like to sign up for hours in the Co-op, I will bring the schedule and you will have the opportunity to do that, as well.  We will also have the pleasure of working with Damir, the Learning-Skills tutoring lead, to learn more about meeting students’ needs in a tutoring session.  THIS MEETING IS MANDATORY!  If you are unable to attend, I hope I have already heard from you.  You must schedule a time with me to make up what you have missed.  Thanks!

Not many other announcements, as much of what needs to be covered with be discussed on Sunday night.  So I have only two more items:

***One: All new tutors need to complete on-line sexual harassment training.  The link to that can be found here: <http://training.newmedialearning.com/psh/uvermont/index.htm>  The University requires ALL of its employees to complete this training.  Please email the certificate of completion to me so we can keep it on file for you.

***Two:  Like last week, we have a long list of requests for tutors.  If you are able to tutor any of these courses, please email me and also obtain a faculty recommendation using our online form http://www.uvm.edu/~learnco/sat/facrec/

Week Three: Subject-Area Tutoring Updates

Greetings, tutors old and new!

Not too much new this week, though it has certainly been a busy one.  Tutoring officially began on Monday, and it’s been nice to have you all in the Co-Op once again.  But with new appointments comes new responsibilities; remember all of your appointments need to be logged on tutortrac.  If it has been scheduled in the Co-Op, change the status to “attended” and of completed campus-wide, log a “quick visit.”  If you’re new to the Co-Op, it’s possible that some of your paperwork has yet to be processed.  If you are having difficulties with tutortrac, this may be the case.  Please be patient as we work out the beginning of the year quirks.
Once time has been logged, I’m sure you all would like to get paid.  Remember to log all of your hours in Peoplesoft; I will soon be approving time for the next pay period, so get your hours in by Friday.  Again, if you’re new and can’t log in, there’e most likely more paperwork to process.  If you’re a returning tutor and having problems with Peoplesoft,  you may need to fill out a temporary employment form.  Shoot me an email if this is the case, and we’ll work on troubleshooting.  In case, we’ll take care of these
issues in the ALL-TUTOR MEETING.  If I haven’t reminded you enough, our MANDATORY all-tutor meeting is scheduled for Sunday, September 26 at 7 pm in L/L CM 315.  If you will be unable to make it, I expect to hear from you soon.

If you are interested in filling the remaining openings for Co-Op based tutoring, please set-up a time to stop by my office.

We have a long list of requests for tutors.  If you are able to tutor any of these courses, please email me and also obtain a faculty recommendation using our online form http://www.uvm.edu/~learnco/sat/facrec/

Week Two Updates and a Call for Tutors

Greetings, tutors!

It’s only week two, but I already have many wondrous and exciting things to share with you!

First, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new tutors. We’re certainly glad to have you on board and if there is anything I can do to help make the transition easier, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I love to get emails from all of you, and to have you stop by my office in the Learning Co-Op.

#1: I have been informed by the powers-that-be that tutortrac is up and running. We hope without too many complications, confusions, or confrontations. You’ll find tutortrac at and will be able to use it to view your Co-Op schedule, complete lognotes, and record campus-wide tutoring sessions.

#2: The first day of tutoring is Monday, September 13. Who’s pumped? I know I am… After Monday, you’ll be able to make Campus-wide appointments and will begin to have appointments scheduled for you if you work as a Co-Op based tutor.

#3: Our MANDATORY all-tutor meeting is scheduled for Sunday, September 26 at 7 pm in L/L CM 315. If you will be unable to make it, I expect to hear from you soon.

#4: I have attached a copy of the most current Co-Op schedule. If you would like to claim hours in the Co-Op, take a look at the schedule and email me which of the available times you would like to cover. Many of you have sent me hours of availability and I have done my best to accommodate these requests, but please double check to ensure the schedule is set to your liking. If anything needs amending, let me know and I’ll be happy to fix it for you if I can.

#5: If you have been hired but have yet to attend training, Dani Walsh will be holding one more session this week; Sunday evening from 4-6 pm. She will also be holding additional trainings next week and will be in contact with those of you still needing to attend directly.

#6: We have a long list of requests for tutors. If you are able to tutor any of these courses, please email me and also obtain a faculty recommendation using our online form http://www.uvm.edu/~learnco/sat/facrec/

#7: In the past, the Learning Co-Op has offered Supplemental Instruction for CHEM 31. This semester, we are instead offering many opportunities for drop-in group tutoring and have a need for more leaders. If you’re interested, let me know!

Whew…that was a lot to process. Thanks for your patience! I hope you all are having a great time back at UVM.

Cheers,
Rachel

Welcome Back!

Greetings, all!

As you have heard from Patience, via email, I have recently taken on the position as Tutor Program Coordinator and have the pleasure of working with all of you lovely folks this year.  As a UVM grad and former subject-area tutor and SI leader, this is a wonderful and exciting opportunity, and I can’t wait to meet you all around the Co-Op.

Pleasantries aside, I do have a few orders of business to address with you all to be presented, for the sake of convenience, in list form.

1. Tutoring will not officially begin until the week of September 13.  (That’s the third week of classes).  However, we will begin the intake process next week, and tutees may begin to contact you to make appointments.  Nevertheless, you are NOT to begin tutoring until the week of the 13.  Please, do not schedule any appointments prior to that date.

2. I have begun to complete the schedule for Co-Op based tutoring.  In order to be sure you get the times you want, please send me your availability ASAP.  I will send an email to confirm the times you have selected.

3. Please mark your calendars, as our MANDATORY, all-tutor meeting has been set for Sunday, September 26, at 7 pm.  This is to take place in L/L CM 315.  This is still nearly a month away, so I expect you all will be able to do what it takes to be available at this time.  Thanks!

I hope your first week of classes is off to a great start.

Cheers!

Rachel
