Does the pine stimulate my imagination and my hopes more deeply than the birch does? If so? is the difference in the trees, or in me?
The only conclusion I have ever reached is that I love all trees, but I am in love with the pines. (Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac: November)
Indeed the colder weather is beginning to settle into Centennial Woods. Most of the Red Maples and Sugar Maples have lost their leaves with recent wind storms. The pines however, are a symbol of resilience. They have withstood years of change to the environment, windstorms, and the footprints of visitors. I admire their stature and ways, similar to how Aldo Leopold described what pine trees meant to him.
