Behind Mercy Hall, you will find a fairly vast forested area, which not many people know about. Several fallen tree trunks and cleared space provide a nice sitting spot for students looking to de-stress. Down the path and a steep hill is where you can find my spot. This spot is split by a small stream, which can be crossed by use of the 3 foot trail bridge. Facing the hill, there are many large coniferous trees — which is easily noticeable by the pines that cover the ground. The bottom of the hill stabilizes to a meadow, and contains an array of dock-weeds, Orchard Grass, Leopard Plants, Brood-Leaved Dock, and Flat-Top Aster. There is also a semi-large Alder Buckthorn tree, of which a bird feeder hangs from.
I came across this site shortly after arriving at UVM. I love this spot because of its proximity to my residential hall. I’m able to get here in 5 minutes, which not many other on-campus residents can relate to. Trinity is a blessing in disguise — we have to walk far to get to campus, but we are in the center of a greater forested area with so much space to explore and hangout.
