The Sustainable Innovation MBA Class of 2020 will be hosting a virtual Sustainability Summit<\/a> on April 22, 2020 in collaboration with The Gund Institute for Environment<\/a>. This summit, organized by SI-MBA students themselves, is a golden opportunity to apply Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and World Caf\u00e9 tools learned in Professor Dr. Ante Glavas\u2019s<\/a> course, Driving Sustainable Change. <\/em>The Sustainability Summit will kick-off with opening remarks from Sanjay Sharma<\/a>, Dean of the Grossman School of Business, and include keynote speakers Taylor Ricketts<\/a>, Director of the Gund Institute, and Patty Prelock<\/a>, University of Vermont Provost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\nhad the opportunity to chat (virtually) with Ante and ask him the story of how\nthis summit came to be. \u201cThe Gund Institute for Environment and I realized the\n50th Anniversary of Earth day this year was a perfect opportunity for SI-MBA\nstudents to organize a summit centered around creating lasting sustainable\nchange and solving environmental issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nSustainability Summit will take a bottom-up approach to build cross-sector\nstakeholder-led initiatives which will contribute to the future of\nsustainability at UVM. We will measure UVM\u2019s strengths in the sustainability\nspace and co-create scalable strategies for driving future change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ante\nmentioned that \u201cstudents are able to apply the tool of Appreciative Inquiry to\nmap techniques for creating lasting sustainable impacts.\u201d The summit will\nfeature workshops and world caf\u00e9-style breakout groups to tap into the\ncollective wisdom of all summit participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nthis new time of COVID-19 and social distancing, SI-MBA students have truly\ngone the extra mile, stepping up to quickly transition the summit into a\nvirtual experience. Although originally Ante feared the summit would be\ncanceled, the overwhelming feedback was that now more than ever is a crucial\ntime for people to connect. \u201cSI-MBA students recognize the importance of\npreserving a bottom-up, co-creative environment,\u201d Ante said. Hosting this\nSustainability Summit despite the new virtual learning circumstances provides\nsuch an opportunity to contribute towards building a better, more\ncollaborative, and more sustainable future together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
