There are many definitions of social capital, but one of our favorites is:<\/p>\n

so\u00b7cial cap\u00b7i\u00b7tal<\/p>\n

noun<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 \u00a0the\u00a0network\u00a0of\u00a0social\u00a0connections\u00a0that\u00a0exist\u00a0between\u00a0people,\u00a0and\u00a0their shared\u00a0values\u00a0and\u00a0norms\u00a0of\u00a0behavior,\u00a0which\u00a0enable\u00a0and\u00a0encourage mutually\u00a0advantageous\u00a0social\u00a0cooperation.<\/p>\n

Capital can take several other forms including natural, human, financial and manufactured, however, for the current Sustainable Innovation MBA cohort, one way the concept of social capital is reinforced in the classroom is with the presence of several program alums.<\/p>\n

Recently, as part of Associate Professor and The Steven Grossman Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship Erik Monsen\u2019s Start-Up Experience Panel, the class was joined by two program alums,\u00a0Ben Tacka \u201915<\/a>\u00a0and Diane Abruzzini \u201917<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By returning and sharing their experiences, Ben and Diane, along with the considerable number of other alums who have returned in one capacity or another, surfaced one of the programs great strengths: i.e. the power of the social capital inherent in a common sense of purpose, of community, of collaboration and the network they have now joined. A network devoted to creating profitable and sustainable business opportunities in a world undergoing transformational change.<\/p>\n
