Wells, a full 37 years after Charles Darwin published his famous scientific on evolution, On the Origin of Species. The novel was published among growing concerns in Britain about vivisection and degeneration. In 1898, two years after the novel\u2019s publication, a collection of interested parties formed the \u201cBritish Union for the Abolition of Vivisection\u201d. Founded by Frances Cobbe the main goal of the advocacy group was to challenge the use of animals in experiments. In 2012 the BUAV joined with another society create a new international campaign against testing on animals.
