For this visit, I had a few things to look for and observe. The main thing that I had to do was observe for the most recent changes since my last visit a long time ago. There is no more snow. The brook is roaring with all of the snow melt coming down to the lake. Ferns are beginning to peak through the soil. Everything was super muddy, so getting to my location was very difficult.
I had to log a few species that I noticed. My central tree is a large Eastern White Pine is beautiful and stands taller than the majority of the other trees in the area. Right next to my main tree is a much smaller yellow birch that is curving away from my main tree to get to the sunlight as it grows above the understory.
I could not find any buds to plants in my area because all of my understory is made up of Eastern Hemlocks while almost all of the larger trees are conifers. The few that are hardwoods are too high up for me to be able to observe their buds. Spring flowers that have begun to grow are the ferns. They have begun to pop above the soil, but have not yet unfurled.
