Hope is a necessity, a blossom within the overwhelming environmental and climate concerns of the Anthropocene. With each stitch through the soft plastic, a material that will remain on Earth for centuries, a fiber overcomes man-made barriers and shows us that despite these obstacles, we will find ways to mend.

Artist Statement

This piece aims to represent hope, which is crucial in the environmental movement but can be difficult to find in demanding and often disheartening times. I believe that without hope, the environmental movement would lose all momentum and any chance to, “… heal and radically change the human-environment systems…”. I also believe that the feeling of hope isn’t lost, and I aimed to capture this feeling by emulating images I have seen of nature overtaking human-made obstacles.
