The Things We Cannot See and On the Rocks

The Things We Cannot See

Artist Statement

I wanted to make a piece to represent the hidden processes behind all environmental systems, and the connection that not only we have with the environment but the connection that different environmental processes have with each other. To me, this innate connection not only guides us all in our decisions, but empowers us with a certain natural empathy for each other and the environment.

On the Rocks

Artist Statement

I wanted to draw the ocean in a kind of nostalgic light. I worry now that future generations will not experience the same ocean that I did– in its purest form and unburdened by human intervention. I also think it serves as a good reminder of what we’re fighting for here: an ocean that everyone can access and contains a wealth of species.

About the Artist

I am a sophomore environmental science major with a French minor. I do a lot of different art mediums, but my favorites are digital and gouache. I like painting the environment as a way to process climate change and to immortalize beautiful places that we might lose to the climate crisis. I see myself either going into environmental law or research. In my spare time apart from painting, I like to crochet, play volleyball, and read.
