Spring Weave
Recycled fabric, yarn, twine

Spring Weave incorporates thrifted and recycled materials into three distinct textile patterns to give new life to scraps. By reclaiming these fabrics, Lockhart is able to cast them in a “creative and innovative light.” What other resources might we be able to repurpose, reuse, and apply to something new?

A framed set of three woven tapestries, the woven pieces have varying textures and geometric shapes using earth tones.

Artist Statement

Incorporating thrifted and recycled materials, the Spring Weave series gives new life to scraps of yarn, twine, and fabric to make three compositions different in texture and pattern although they are yielded from the same materials. By building my own loom using nails and an old frame, I made these pieces using scraps and fragments I already owned in order to re-experience fabrics and textures in a creative and innovative light.
