Renewal

Oftentimes, small things are forgotten or overlooked. As nature erodes, we lose many unsung beings who are vanishing without notice. Renewal explores the interconnectedness of our world. All parts of our ecosystem rely on each other, from apex predators to decomposers. No one part carries more weight or importance than another.

Artist Statement

Often times, the small things are forgotten or overlooked. As we lose nature, we lose many unsung beings who are vanishing without anybody ever knowing they were there.

As someone who has felt invisible and values empathy and reciprocity, this piece reflects my relationship with the environment. It speaks to my belief in the interconnectedness of all living beings and the significance of recognizing the contributions of even the tiniest creatures.

We can’t recognize what we don’t see, and this piece emphasizes two creatures who need to be protected. They play quiet, yet important roles in nature, contributing in ways we take for granted. We need all parts of our ecosystems, from the apex predators to decomposers, and every single thing in between.
