Artist Statement
In order to move in the right direction in this rapidly changing world, we must have empathy for the more-than-human sphere and find ways to coexist alongside them. Much of the planet has been desensitized to environmental disasters as they have become increasingly more common, leading people to falsely believe that nature was made to withstand these tragedies.
I cherish nature for its ability to release childlike wonder in me. I attribute my formative years to my love for the environment, and the illustrations of Eric Carle have always been incredibly inspiring and iconic to me since childhood. This piece acts as a metric for juxtaposition, capturing the essence and empathy of childhood amidst a burning climate.
