I was just studying Philosophy at first, which lacked a direct confrontation with a lot of social justice and political issues that Religion classes offer so I added another major.<\/p>\n<p style=\"border: 0px;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;margin: 0px 0px 1.625em;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #373737\"><strong style=\"color: #008000;font-family: inherit;font-style: inherit;border: 0px;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline\">Where do you imagine yourself in 10 years?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"border: 0px;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;margin: 0px 0px 1.625em;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #373737\">I\u2019d like to move to a city like New York, Philadelphia, or go back DC. I\u2019m definitely comfortable living in apartments my whole life. It\u2019d be nice to go to post-grad to do some work that could involve using what I\u2019ve learned and actually helping people, thinking about working in a library, museum, school, or maybe something to do with law or some non-profit work who knows!<\/p>\n<p style=\"border: 0px;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;margin: 0px 0px 1.625em;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #373737\"><strong style=\"border: 0px;font-family: inherit;font-style: inherit;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline\"><span style=\"border: 0px;font-family: inherit;font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #008000\">Imagine a first-year student has asked your advice about REL courses. What\u2019s the one she\u00a0shouldn\u2019t\u00a0dream about missing? Why?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"border: 0px;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;margin: 0px 0px 1.625em;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #373737\">I think REL 100: Interpretation of Religion is super important as far as it deconstructs our common Western assumptions of what religion is and reveals that \u201cThe Invention of World Religions\u201d was a colonial project. Tomoko Masuzawa\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/press.uchicago.edu\/ucp\/books\/book\/chicago\/I\/bo3534198.html\"><em>The Invention of World Religions<\/em> <\/a>and Saba Mahmood\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jstor.org\/stable\/10.7312\/armo13406\">\u201cAgency, Performativity, and the Feminist Subject\u201d<\/a> are definitely two of the best things I\u2019ve read for any class.<\/p>\n<p style=\"border: 0px;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;margin: 0px 0px 1.625em;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #373737\"><strong style=\"border: 0px;font-family: inherit;font-style: inherit;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline\"><span style=\"border: 0px;font-family: inherit;font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #008000\">If you could write any book, what would it be?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"border: 0px;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;margin: 0px 0px 1.625em;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #373737\">There are some ideas floating around my head connecting Ludwig Wittgenstein\u2019s idea of language as a \u201cform of life\u201d, Judith Butler\u2019s idea of \u201cperformativity\u201d, and Robert Orsi\u2019s \u201clived religion\u201d but I would need to think about them a lot more to write something coherent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"border: 0px;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;margin: 0px 0px 1.625em;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #373737\"><span style=\"border: 0px;font-family: inherit;font-style: inherit;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #008000\"><strong style=\"border: 0px;font-family: inherit;font-style: inherit;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline\"><a style=\"border: 0px;font-family: inherit;font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;margin: 0px;padding: 0px;vertical-align: baseline;color: #1f47e4;text-decoration: none\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/religion\/files\/2017\/04\/Religion@UVM-02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-699 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/religion\/files\/2017\/04\/Religion@UVM-02-723x1024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"313\" \/><\/a>Any fond memories of 481 Main Street you want to share?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Going to Professors Clark and Brennan for advising help, Professor Borchert pulling Adorno off the shelf for me and bringing snacks to 203 along with all the bonding over stress we got to do in that class.
