I left those classes with theoretical bones to pick and activism to do!\u201d<\/p><cite>&#8211;Maddy Gale<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/religion\/files\/2020\/05\/IMG_3017-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1221\" width=\"304\" height=\"230\" \/><figcaption>Maddy Gale &#8217;20<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why did you major in Religion?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My dad, a very open atheist, always told me the Bible was the best book he had ever read.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In high school, theology and philosophy were my favorite subjects, so coming to college, I knew it was an area of interest! After my Theater major turned into a minor and my English major wasn\u2019t cutting it, I took Islam &amp; Modernity with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ProfIRMF?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\">IRMF<\/a> (uh, that&#8217;s Prof Morgenstein Fuerst), added a double major in Religion, and the rest was history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where do you imagine yourself in 10 years?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Writing! Not sure in what capacity, but I\u2019m hoping that whatever career I\u2019m in will involve writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Imagine a first-year student has asked your advice about REL courses. What\u2019s the one she&nbsp;shouldn\u2019t&nbsp;dream about missing? Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ooh that\u2019s tough. I would say it\u2019s a tie between Islam and Race with IRMF and Religion, Nation, and State with Professor Borchert. Both classes were rooted in scholarship that had real world, real time applicability. I left those classes with theoretical bones to pick and activism to do!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you could write any book, what would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yikes. Tell us something about that experience!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hands down, my Religion professors have been the most understanding and kind humans during this time. This sh*t sucks, but every teacher from the department has had my back 100%.
