Senior Resident Advisor


The Senior RA is a leader on staff, supporting new RAs and collaborating with the RD, ARD, and other Senior RAs.  Professional staff support RAs in balancing academic and extracurricular responsibilities. Senior Resident Advisors are responsible for performing the following duties through collaboration with other Senior RAs on each complex staff.  Senior RAs are responsible for dividing these duties amongst their Senior RA peers. These are in addition to general responsibilities for all RAs as described above.

Duty

  • Coordinate duty schedule for the complex
    • Facilitate consensus meeting or
    • Schedule by default
  • Post schedule and updates on RetNet
  • Manage duty changes throughout the semester
  • Maintain tally of duty shifts per weekday, weekend, and phone coverage

Desk Management (Per Complex/OM Discretion)

  • Help train RAs to work front desk
  • Respond to questions regarding protocol
  • Coordinate with Office Manager to ensure adherence to protocol at the desk
  • Communicate desk-related updates to the staff

Staff Room (Per Complex Discretion)

  • Provide a safe, fun, welcoming space for fellow RAs
  • Organize staff room
  • Hold staff accountable for upkeep of space
  • Communicate needed supplies to Office Manager/Residence Director

Programming/RetNet/Communications

  • Maintain programming discussion thread on RetNet
  • Maintain programming calendar on RetNet
  • Keep site clean – delete old threads, maintain photo albums, etc.
  • Post campus and listserv announcements
  • Post Hall Council updates (and RLC/Special Interest updates were applicable)
  • Maintain building-wide communication for appropriate programming and community activities

Meeting Leadership

  • Coordinate schedule for staff meeting leadership (staff standards determine roles – timekeeper, team builder, note taker, leader, etc.)

Recognition/Staff Development

  • Organize staff recognition (per staff standards)
  • Coordinate nominations for OTMs written by fellow RAs
  • Submit 2 OTMs per semester
  • Coordinate staff development (per staff standards)

RA Council

  • Attend biweekly RA Council meetings
  • Serve on departmental committees whenever possible
  • Solicit input from staff for constructive feedback to department via RA Council
  • Highlight complex happenings/accomplishments/etc.
  • Report back to staff
