Her research focus is on the concept of \u2018cultural competency\u2019. Taking a deeper look at the journal entries students write while away, she and two colleagues survey the cultural experience of students based on where they travel. Specifically, they are looking for the themes of cultural takeaways by the students. The goal of her work is to use a hermeneutic phenomenological approach and to gain understanding of students\u2019 perspective of various global healthcare systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCultural awareness means that you\u2019re aware that there are other cultures and that beliefs, values, traditions, can be different.
