{"id":55,"date":"2011-04-22T15:42:13","date_gmt":"2011-04-22T19:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/place-twoforests\/?page_id=55"},"modified":"2011-05-09T11:13:36","modified_gmt":"2011-05-09T15:13:36","slug":"education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/place-twoforests\/topics\/education\/","title":{"rendered":"Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Forests provide an excellent opportunity for exploration and hands-on learning for children and adults. \u00a0Throughout the spring of 2011, I explored the use of forests as living classrooms in Vermont and Puerto Rico and investigated the use and success of &#8220;Citizen Science&#8221; program in both places. \u00a0Working with Cori Brauer, another 378 student, I connected with a local middle school science teacher in Vermont and with her classes, we explored and inventoried a vernal pool at the Jericho Research Forest. \u00a0Students learned first-hand about the importance of these sensitive and ephemeral wetlands, while providing Jericho with valuable information about an important natural community. <\/em><strong>&#8211;
