The phenology of March can be especially interesting when tracking local animals. I visited Centennial woods to explore the phenology of March in Burlington. For anyone else that went there this week, not only was it super cold and windy at times, the trail was also very icy.
Although it was particularly cold, 19 degrees on the day that I went, the brook was still flowing.
I also found some tracks, although the tracking conditions weren’t very good for older tracks. The snow had formed a hard layer of ice with a small dusting of snow on top. This made newer tracks easy to observe but it practically ruined older tracks. Tracking also meant going off-trail, into the snow, unsure of whether you were going to sink in or not.
