{"id":28,"date":"2015-09-22T19:52:41","date_gmt":"2015-09-22T23:52:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/nphelps\/?p=28"},"modified":"2015-10-27T15:44:10","modified_gmt":"2015-10-27T19:44:10","slug":"presentation-shafr-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.uvm.edu\/nphelps\/2015\/09\/22\/presentation-shafr-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Presentation: SHAFR 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the 2015 Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) conference, I organized a panel on &#8220;Patterns and Problems: The US Consular Service in the Nineteenth Century.&#8221; Joining me in presenting papers were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.morgan.edu\/college_of_liberal_arts\/departments\/history_and_geography\/faculty_and_staff\/lawrence_peskin.html\" target=\"_blank\">Prof. Lawrence Peskin<\/a> of the Morgan State University, who spoke about his research on the Montgomery family, a trading family who provided the US consul in Alicante, Spain from 1793 to 1823; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redlands.edu\/academics\/college-of-arts-sciences\/undergraduate-studies\/history\/2294.aspx#.VgHpWZfGppU\" target=\"_blank\">Prof. Mattew Raffety<\/a> of the University of Redlands, who spoke about Nicholas Trist&#8217;s time as a &#8211; very loquacious &#8211; US consul in Havana between 1831 and 1845.
